S.2590 continues to make waves, with passage into law last week. GovExec has a report on this which includes comments from “An industry expert who requested anonymity expressed reservations about the new search tool.” Those comments seem to be remarkably well-informed and in-depth, so should be read closely. The conclusion to be drawn from these comments is that the system will take a lot of money to build — much more than the $5 million that the CBO budgeted for the first year. Meanwhile, OMB Watch has already built a system that approximates the objectives of S.2590, for only $100,000.
