NIH Hires TCG to Support Initiative Linking Animal Models to Human Disease

Project will integrate data and information about animal models

Washington, DC, January 26, 2009: TCG, a leading government technology strategy and IT company, announced today that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded the company a contract to design and build the database and Web site supporting the Linking Animal Models to Human Disease Initiative (LAMHDI).

Under the two-year, $1.57 million contract, TCG will build and operate a Web-based resource to integrate data and information about animal models to enable the animal model and human disease research communities to identify useful resources and apply them in their research. The National Center for Research Resources will manage the contract for the NIH.

“LAMHDI will assist animal model and human disease researchers worldwide to find, access, and build on a wide variety of existing animal models and data,” said Daniel A. Turner, President of TCG. “We built our approach around a successful example, the Neuroimaging Informatics Tools and Resources Clearinghouse, so we are delighted to expand our relationship with the NIH, and look forward to a close working relationship with the agency and the research community at large.”  The NITRC Web site is at www.nitrc.org.

The work will be performed by TCG’s Washington, DC, office in collaboration with the University of California, San Diego, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
