The Test Engineer ensures that every phase and feature of the software solution receives the appropriate level of quality assurance and testing. This includes leading test preparation, manual testing, implementation and maintenance of automated testing, and collaboration with the team and product owners on triaging of issues identified. This role will require initiative and leadership in a fast paced environment. 

This role will require occasional onsite presence at client-side in downtown Washington DC. The ideal candidate will live within commuting distance of Washington DC. 

US Citizenship is required for this role. In addition, the selected applicant must submit to a government background investigation and be favorably adjudicated before their first day.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the creation of test plans, test cases, and test scripts for both manual and automated testing 
  • Using test plans and test cases, executing manual tests on in-flight development work to identify potential bugs and issues
  • Adapting manual tests into automated regression scripts in the Telerik test suite
  • Support the team in developing appropriate automated testing scripts for the API and backend
  • As part of sprint planning, working with the Scrum Master, Business Analysts, Developers, and Product Owner to help define acceptance criteria, definition of done, technical implementation, and potential edge cases as it results to quality assurance activities
  • Communicate clearly and collaboratively with the team and Product Owner to ensure the system fulfills business requirements and all issues are resolved successfully
  • Utilize knowledge of quality assurance practices in an Agile environment to appropriately balance quality and speed
  • Support growth initiatives through knowledge sharing and acquiring relevant certifications
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • A minimum of 7 years of related work experience
  • 4+ years experience developing test plans, test cases, and test scripts
  • 3+ years experience with test automation tools (Telerik preferred, but comparable technologies accepted)
  • Demonstrated experience establishing quality assurance processes and standards in an Agile environment
  • Client-ready communication skills and a consultative mindset
  • Demonstrated initiative in planning work, collaborating with others, and supporting process improvement
  • Experience collaborating with developers and analysts to define system needs
  • The ability to prioritize and organize efforts in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and professional technical documentation
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with writing API/backend unit tests, preferably in C# and Javascript 
  • Experience establishing, managing, and maintaining a unit test framework (e.g. Jest, Cypress, NUnit)
  • Experience with SQL and JSON
  • Experience using and working with open source tools
  • CTFL — ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level
  • Hands-on experience with Jira

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is desired; four years of relevant experience is acceptable in lieu of degree
