Companies Honored for Achieving Excellence through Collaboration
PBG Consulting with TCG Inc. have been honored with the Small and Emerging Contractors Advisory Forum (SECAF) Award for Mentor-Protégé Program of the Year. The award recognizes companies that have shown a compelling and profound commitment to excellence through their collaboration efforts. The award was announced at the SECAF Awards Gala on May 5th.
“Of course we all compete in the marketplace, and this often means that collaboration is undervalued,” said Daniel Turner, President of TCG. “But the complexity of the Federal sector — with a significant number of stakeholders, not to mention the public interest and taxpayers — makes high-level collaboration vital. Getting the opportunity to share — in both directions — knowledge, experience, and capabilities with a partner like PBG helps us provide outstanding service to Federal agencies. Together we can have a transformative impact on their mission and, ultimately, American citizens.”
As a mentor to PBG, TCG is a valuable source of best practices in IT and software engineering, business and engineering process and quality, and workplace culture, in addition to helping PBG find and secure new opportunities to grow and thrive.
Collaboration is one of TCG’s core values. We believe that when teams with common values and goals work together they can not only do amazing things but do more and do better than those working in silos.
“Receiving the SECAF Mentor-Protégé Program of the Year award demonstrates our level of commitment to mutual continuous improvement and dedication to good government. PBG will continue to focus on growing with TCG into ever more successful and fulfilling work—as a team,” said Vanessa Soon, Chief Technology Officer of PBG.
TCG and PBG established an SBA-approved mentor-protégé joint venture, Portmanteau JV, in 2020. In early 2021, TCG and PBG partnered to win a 5‑year, $51M contract to provide IT Enterprise Support Services to Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families (HHS ACF).
Earlier this year, Portmanteau was awarded the Best-in-Class 8(a) STARS III Government-Wide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) from the General Services Administration (GSA), accelerating TCG and PBG’s ability to bring their collective 55-plus years of experience and expertise in Federal IT to a wide range of Federal customers.
The All Small Mentor-Protégé Program (ASMPP) was established in 2016 to extend SBA approved mentor-protégé relationships to every small business. This program seeks to develop strong protégé firms through mentor-provided business development assistance and to help them successfully compete for government contracts.
“The SECAF Awards give us an opportunity to highlight the small and emerging contractors that are succeeding in our market; along with the people, in and out of government, that are driving our market to success,” said Mitchell Ross, Principal at Acquisition and Management, LLC, and Chair of the SECAF Board of Directors. “TCG and PBG exemplify the successful journey that can result from a commitment to serving the public sector market.”
A distinguished group of judges selected the winners. More information about the awards can be found here.
About Portmanteau JV
Portmanteau JV LLC is the union of two award-winning, experienced federal IT and management consulting service providers: PBG Consulting and TCG, Inc. The company is an SBA-approved 8(a), Woman-Owned Small Business All-Small Mentor-Protégé Joint Venture specializing in program management, system architecture and design, application engineering and development, database architecture and data management, data analysis, analytics and dashboards, operations and maintenance, and cloud. A portmanteau is a big suitcase that opens into two equal parts, but more importantly Lewis Carroll redefined it as a word that combines the sounds and meanings of two other words. Examples include email, motel, brunch, podcast, alphanumeric, smog, breathalyzer, frenemy, WiFi, frankenfood, bromance, shopaholic, Velcro™, sitcom, gerrymander, taxicab, and hangry. Portmanteau JV LLC follows in this tradition, as it is an entity even greater than the sum of its parts.
